Alaska Fly Fishing

Any serious angler can tell you that Alaska fly fishing is fantastic sport. Alaska just happens to be renowned for its rivers and lakes full of fish. So, get ready for the Alaskan fly fishing trip of a lifetime.

What type of fish you catch, highly depends on the month for Alaska fly fishing. May and June are considered early season. This is probably the most limited time in terms of variety as the only fish running are the King Salmon. But, although you may lack in numbers, this is the time to land that trophy fish!

In July, summer has officially arrived. This is when you start seeing Sockeye Salmon, Dolly Varden, and Rainbow Trout, along with the Kings. By August and September, those Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden will almost double in size. And if that isn’t enough variety for you, the Steelhead and Silver Trout will join in the ranks and you’ll have more fish to catch than you can imagine on your Alaska fly fishing trip.

When planning your perfect Alaska fly fishing trip, make sure to think it through. The fish you’d like to catch, will determine what time of year you go, and where exactly you’ll be located. You’ll have to look at the peak run time charts for each area, as the time the fish spend in a certain area can be fleeting. Considering a fly out could also take your trip to the next level. If you don’t mind spending a few extra dollars, hopping into a float plane and heading out to a more remote location could become the most memorable part of your Alaska fly fishing trip!

You can never fully predict your adventure. But if you get to the right place, at the right time, your Alaskan fly fishing trip is off to a great start.
